Finding Gigs
Website Resources

By David Jackson
Someone had run out of gigs inspired this week's discussion. Here are my quick thoughts on finding a place to play:Scope out your competition. Find a band like yours, and then find out where they play. It's a dog eat dog world. Don't walk around threatening people, "You suck, we're going to play here!"
If you are looking outside the neighborhood, you might want to try the Internet. There are PLENTY of sites that allow bands to post their schedules. Some sites work as online booking agents (someone could help me confirm here, but from what I've heard this often delivers very little notice, and for not so great pay at times).

Just starting out and trying to get your legs? Go to a jam night with your band. It's basically an audition. Don't piss off whoever is organizing it. Chances are you will have to wait to get on stage. Still nothing? Get some karma rolling. Call charities (breast cancer, aids, diabetes, etc). These people hold fundraisers and may be looking for entertainment. While this pays poorly (if at all), it can provide exposure, and beats sitting at home wishing you were playing. In doing a quick search on the net, here are some sites I ran
across. If you used them before (or know of any others) please feel to chime in (it will be included in next weeks newsletter).
